Nilser Laines-Medina, PhD
🧠🦋 I am a biomedical engineer and biomedical imaging researcher specializing in quantitative MRI of the spinal cord. My research focuses on ultra-high-field MRI (7T), quantitative MRI biomarkers, artificial intelligence for neuroimaging, and automated medical image analysis.
📊⏱️ I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Magnetic Resonance in Biology and Medicine (CRMBM), Aix-Marseille University, where I develop advanced quantitative MRI techniques for spinal cord imaging at 7 Tesla.
🎓🧲 I completed a co-supervised PhD between the NeuroPoly Lab at Polytechnique Montréal (Canada) and the Center for Magnetic Resonance in Biology and Medicine (CRMBM), Aix-Marseille University (France).
During my doctoral research, I developed a deep learning framework for automatic spinal cord multiple sclerosis lesion segmentation on MP2RAGE MRI DOI: 10.1016/j.msard.2026.107250. I also investigated quantitative T1 mapping at 7T to characterize spinal cord white and gray matter alterations in multiple sclerosis DOI: 10.1097/RLI.0000000000001288.
🌎🤝 Since 2026, I have had the honor of serving as the Trainee Representative of the ISMRM Latin American Chapter, representing early-career researchers and contributing to educational, networking, and scientific initiatives within the Latin American MRI community.
